How We Work With Warehouses

A proven process from initial consultation to ongoing supply

01

Facility Assessment

We visit your warehouse to evaluate racking systems, forklift equipment, throughput volume, and product types. This gives us the data to spec the right pallets for your exact environment.

02

Pallet Specification

Based on our assessment, we recommend pallet grades, sizes, and load capacities tailored to your operations. We provide samples for testing on your lines before committing to a program.

03

Volume & Schedule Planning

We work with your logistics team to build a delivery schedule that aligns with your receiving windows, shift changes, and seasonal demand curves. No surprise deliveries, no missed windows.

04

Quality-Controlled Delivery

Every load is inspected before it leaves our yard. Pallets are sorted by grade, stacked uniformly, and delivered on flatbed or curtain-side trucks for easy unloading at your dock.

05

Ongoing Inventory Monitoring

Your dedicated account manager tracks your pallet usage patterns and proactively adjusts delivery schedules. You never have to worry about running low or over-ordering.

06

Retrieval & Recycling Loop

We pick up spent, damaged, or excess pallets from your facility on a regular schedule. Usable pallets are repaired and recirculated; the rest are responsibly recycled.

Common Pallet Sizes for Warehousing

Standard and specialty dimensions for distribution operations

48" x 40"

GMA Standard

Load Capacity: 2,800 lbs dynamic

Universal warehouse standard. Compatible with all standard racking, conveyor systems, and truck trailers. The most widely available pallet in North America.

42" x 42"

Telecom / Paint

Load Capacity: 2,500 lbs dynamic

Common in paint, coatings, and telecommunications equipment warehousing. Square footprint allows four-way entry and uniform stacking.

48" x 48"

Drum Pallet

Load Capacity: 3,500 lbs dynamic

Designed for 55-gallon drum storage and chemical warehousing. Extra surface area prevents overhang and improves stability in racking.

48" x 42"

Chemical / Beverage

Load Capacity: 2,500 lbs dynamic

Popular in beverage distribution and chemical warehousing. Slightly wider than GMA for better load coverage on certain product footprints.

40" x 40"

Dairy Pallet

Load Capacity: 2,500 lbs dynamic

Widely used in dairy and cold storage distribution. Square format works well with automated guided vehicles and AS/RS systems.

48" x 20"

Half Pallet

Load Capacity: 1,500 lbs dynamic

Ideal for split shipments, small-lot distribution, and cross-docking operations where full pallets are not needed.

Case Study

Pacific Ridge Distribution

How a 400,000 sq ft distribution center reduced pallet costs by 42%

The Challenge

Pacific Ridge Distribution operates a 400,000 square foot facility in Perris, CA, handling over 8,000 SKUs for national retail chains. They were purchasing new GMA pallets from a single supplier at $12.50 per unit, consuming roughly 4,500 pallets per week during peak season. Their annual pallet spend exceeded $2.9 million.

Their existing supplier had inconsistent quality, with roughly 8% of pallets arriving damaged or out-of-spec. This caused racking failures, product damage claims averaging $15,000 per month, and significant labor hours spent sorting pallets at the dock.

The Solution

Riverside Pallet Co. performed a full facility assessment and proposed a blended program: Grade A recycled pallets for outbound retail shipments, Grade B for internal warehouse transfers, and new heat-treated pallets exclusively for export loads. We established twice-weekly deliveries on Tuesday and Friday mornings, aligned with their receiving schedule.

We also implemented a retrieval program, collecting an average of 1,200 spent pallets per week from their facility for repair and recirculation. An on-site sorting team from Riverside works four hours each Wednesday to grade and stack returned pallets, saving Pacific Ridge over 80 labor hours per month.

The Results

42%

Reduction in pallet spend (from $2.9M to $1.68M annually)

<1%

Defect rate on delivered pallets (down from 8%)

80hrs

Monthly labor hours saved through on-site sorting

$0

Product damage claims attributed to pallet failure (first 12 months)

100%

On-time delivery rate over 52 consecutive weeks

Pacific Ridge Distribution warehouse with organized pallet storage
“We switched to Riverside Pallet Co. eighteen months ago and the difference has been night and day. Our dock crew used to spend the first hour of every shift sorting through bad pallets. Now everything that arrives is exactly what we ordered, stacked right, delivered on time. Our ops manager says it's the single best vendor change we've made in five years.”

Warehousing FAQ

Common questions from distribution and warehouse professionals

What is the difference between Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C recycled pallets?

Grade A pallets are the highest quality recycled pallets -- they have no broken boards, minimal staining, and tight, uniform construction. They are suitable for outbound retail shipments and automated systems. Grade B pallets may have minor repairs such as a replaced board or slight discoloration, but are fully functional for standard warehouse use. Grade C pallets are economy-grade with visible repairs and cosmetic wear, best for internal transfers, storage, or one-way shipments where appearance does not matter.

How quickly can you set up a new warehouse pallet supply program?

For most warehouses, we can complete a facility assessment, finalize pallet specs, and begin regular deliveries within 5-7 business days. Emergency or rush setups can be completed in as little as 48 hours if we have your required pallet sizes in stock. We carry a large inventory of standard GMA 48x40 pallets and can fulfill most initial orders immediately.

Do you offer pallet retrieval and recycling services?

Yes. We offer scheduled pallet retrieval from your warehouse at no additional cost when paired with a supply agreement. Our trucks pick up spent, damaged, or excess pallets on a regular schedule. Usable pallets are repaired and returned to circulation. Damaged pallets beyond repair are recycled into mulch, animal bedding, or biomass fuel. This closed-loop program reduces your waste disposal costs and supports sustainability goals.

Can your pallets be used with automated racking and conveyor systems?

Absolutely. We supply pallets that meet the tight dimensional tolerances required by automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and conveyor lines. We can spec pallets to your system manufacturer guidelines, including specific deck board widths, stringer heights, notch dimensions, and overall weight. We recommend providing us with your system specs so we can match pallets precisely.

What happens if we receive a delivery with defective pallets?

Our defect rate is consistently below 1%, but if any pallets in a delivery do not meet the agreed-upon grade specifications, contact your account manager and we will replace them within 24 hours at no charge. We photograph and document every load before it leaves our facility, and we stand behind our quality guarantee. Persistent issues trigger a root-cause review with our grading team.

Can you handle seasonal volume fluctuations without long-term commitments?

Yes, that is one of our core strengths. Many of our warehouse clients see 2-3x volume spikes during peak seasons like Q4 holiday, back-to-school, or summer promotional periods. We maintain reserve inventory specifically to accommodate these surges. There are no long-term minimums or penalties for volume changes. We simply ask for 2 weeks notice when possible for major volume increases so we can pre-stage inventory.

Do you provide on-site pallet management services?

Yes. For high-volume accounts, we offer on-site teams that handle pallet sorting, stacking, quality control, and inventory management directly at your facility. This removes the burden from your warehouse staff and ensures pallets are always organized and ready for use. On-site programs are customized based on your volume and can range from a few hours per week to full-time staffing.
