Wood Species We Use

We select the right wood species for every application, balancing strength, weight, cost, and treatability.

Most Common

Southern Yellow Pine

The workhorse of the pallet industry. Southern Yellow Pine is our primary softwood species, prized for its strength, straight grain, and excellent performance in heat treatment kilns. Used in the majority of our GMA and stringer pallets.

  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Very affordable
  • Absorbs heat treatment well
  • Readily available year-round
Premium Grade

Oak

When you need maximum load capacity, oak delivers. This dense hardwood is our top choice for heavy-duty and oversize pallets. It handles extreme weights without flexing and resists damage from forklifts and rough handling.

  • Extremely strong and dense
  • Heavier than softwood
  • Ideal for heavy-duty loads
  • Excellent nail-holding capacity
Food Grade

Maple / Birch Hardwood

Maple and birch hardwoods offer a clean, smooth surface that makes them ideal for food processing, pharmaceutical, and retail display applications. Their tight grain resists splintering and provides a professional appearance.

  • Very durable and hard
  • Clean, light appearance
  • Ideal for food-grade applications
  • Minimal splintering
Economical

Spruce / Fir

Spruce and fir are our go-to softwoods for lightweight, economy-grade pallets. They are perfect for one-way shipping where pallets won't be returned, keeping your costs as low as possible without sacrificing structural integrity.

  • Lightweight construction
  • Very cost-effective
  • Good for one-way shipping
  • Easy to handle and process

Heat Treatment Process

ISPM-15 compliant heat treatment ensures your wood pallets are approved for international shipping worldwide.

The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM-15) requires all wood packaging materials used in international trade to be treated to eliminate pests. Heat treatment is the most common and environmentally friendly method — no chemicals are used.

During the process, the core temperature of the wood must reach 56°C (132.8°F) and be maintained for a minimum of 30 consecutive minutes. This kills all insects, larvae, and pathogens without compromising the structural integrity of the wood.

Our facility uses computer-controlled kilns that continuously monitor temperature at multiple points within each load. This precision ensures every single pallet meets the standard — no guesswork, no failures at the border.

01

Core Temp: 56°C Minimum

Wood core must reach 56°C (132.8°F) and hold for at least 30 continuous minutes to ensure complete pest elimination.

02

Computer-Controlled Kilns

Our kilns use digital sensors and automated controls for precise temperature management across every batch.

03

IPPC/ISPM-15 Stamp

Every treated pallet receives the official IPPC stamp with our facility code, certifying compliance for global shipping.

04

Required for International Trade

All wood packaging crossing international borders must be treated. Non-compliance results in shipment rejection and fines.

05

2,000+ Pallets Per Day

Our kiln capacity handles over 2,000 pallets per day, so even large orders are treated and delivered on schedule.

Storage & Handling Tips

Maximize the lifespan and safety of your wood pallets with these best practices.

Store Pallets Off the Ground

Keep pallets elevated on a dry, level surface. Direct ground contact leads to moisture absorption, mold growth, and accelerated rot — especially on dirt or concrete floors.

Keep Pallets Dry

Moisture is the number one enemy of wood pallets. Store indoors or under cover whenever possible. Wet pallets lose strength, grow mold, and can contaminate products.

Stack No More Than 15 High

Stacking beyond 15 pallets risks collapse, especially with lighter-grade pallets. Keep stacks uniform and straight. Use blocking or banding on taller stacks for added stability.

Inspect Before Every Use

Check for cracked stringers, broken deck boards, and protruding nails before loading. A quick 10-second visual inspection prevents product damage and workplace injuries.

Remove Damaged Pallets Immediately

Never put a visibly damaged pallet back into circulation. Set damaged pallets aside for repair or recycling. One broken pallet can cause a forklift accident or product loss.

Store in Well-Ventilated Areas

Good air circulation prevents moisture buildup and mold. Avoid storing pallets in sealed, humid spaces. If storing outdoors, ensure airflow between stacks.

Avoid Extreme Heat Exposure

While heat treatment is controlled, prolonged exposure to extreme heat (direct sunlight in summer, near heaters) can cause wood to dry out, crack, and weaken over time.

Rotate Stock (FIFO)

Use a first-in, first-out rotation system. This ensures older pallets are used before newer ones, preventing long-term storage degradation and keeping your inventory fresh.

Wood vs Plastic Comparison

Both materials have their strengths. Here's an honest comparison to help you choose the right pallet for your application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our wood pallets.

What is the difference between a stringer pallet and a block pallet?

A stringer pallet uses three long, parallel boards (stringers) running between the top and bottom deck boards to provide support. A block pallet uses blocks (typically nine) at the corners, sides, and center. Block pallets offer true 4-way forklift entry, while standard stringer pallets are 2-way, though notched stringers can provide partial 4-way access. Block pallets are generally stronger and preferred for automated systems.

Are your recycled pallets as strong as new pallets?

Yes, when properly graded and repaired. Our Grade A recycled pallets perform identically to new pallets in load testing. The wood in a recycled pallet has already been kiln-dried and stress-tested through real-world use. We replace any compromised components and verify structural integrity through our 12-point inspection. Many of our customers cannot tell the difference between our Grade A recycled and new pallets.

Do I need heat-treated pallets for domestic shipping?

For shipping within the United States, heat treatment is not legally required. However, some customers and facilities require it as part of their quality standards, especially in food, pharmaceutical, and clean-room environments. Heat treatment also kills mold and insects, which can be beneficial regardless of shipping destination. We recommend heat treatment for any pallet entering a food-contact or hygiene-sensitive facility.

How many pallets fit on a standard truck?

A standard 53-foot semi-trailer can carry approximately 400-500 standard 48x40 pallets when stacked and loaded efficiently. For a standard 48-foot trailer, the number is slightly lower at 380-460 pallets. The exact count depends on stacking height, pallet weight, and any DOT weight restrictions. We can advise on optimal loading for your specific trailer and pallet configuration.

What happens to pallets that are too damaged to repair?

Pallets beyond economical repair are dismantled and processed in our recycling operation. The usable lumber is reclaimed for pallet repair stock or sold as recycled lumber. Wood that cannot be reused is chipped and sold as mulch, animal bedding, or biomass fuel. Nothing goes to landfill. Our zero-waste policy means every piece of wood is used to its maximum potential.

Can you deliver pallets on a specific schedule?

Absolutely. Many of our customers set up recurring delivery schedules — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. We assign dedicated inventory and production capacity to recurring accounts, ensuring you never run out of pallets. We also offer just-in-time delivery for customers who need pallets aligned with production schedules. Contact us to set up a delivery program.

What is ISPM-15 and why does it matter?

ISPM-15 stands for International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. It is a global standard that requires all wood packaging materials used in international trade to be treated to prevent the spread of invasive insects and diseases. Compliance requires heat treatment (raising the wood core to 56 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes) and stamping with an official IPPC mark. Non-compliance can result in shipment rejection, fines, and quarantine at the border.

Do you offer a pallet buyback or return program?

Yes. We buy back used pallets from our customers. If you have pallets accumulating at your facility, contact us and we will arrange a pickup. We inspect each pallet and pay based on condition and type. Standard 48x40 GMA pallets in reusable condition typically fetch $2-5 per pallet. This program reduces your waste disposal costs and puts money back in your pocket.
