Buying Pallets

7 questions
We sell recycled and new wood pallets, plastic pallets, custom-built pallets, and pallet accessories. Wood pallets are available in all standard sizes (48x40, 42x42, 48x48, EUR, etc.) and in Grade A, B, and C conditions. We also offer heat-treated pallets for international shipping, combo pallets (wood and plastic hybrid), presswood pallets, and specialty pallets for unique applications like aerospace, pharmaceutical, and food-grade environments.
Grade A pallets are in like-new condition with no broken boards, minimal staining, and consistent appearance — ideal for retail display, export, and brand-sensitive operations. Grade B pallets show moderate use with minor cosmetic imperfections such as light staining or slight board discoloration, but remain structurally sound — our best-selling grade for warehousing and general logistics. Grade C pallets are economy grade with visible wear, possible board replacements, and cosmetic issues, but still meet structural integrity requirements — perfect for one-way shipping, internal facility use, or cost-conscious operations.
New pallets are best when you need guaranteed consistency in dimensions and appearance, when your application requires a specific load rating with no margin of variability, or when your customer or retail partner mandates new pallets (common in big-box retail). Recycled pallets are ideal when cost savings are a priority, for internal warehouse operations, general distribution, one-way shipping, and any application where minor cosmetic variation is acceptable. Most businesses save 30-60% by switching to high-quality recycled pallets with no meaningful difference in performance.
We have no strict minimum order, but our pricing is most competitive for orders of 100+ pallets. For smaller quantities (even single pallets for DIY projects), we can still help — just reach out and we will work something out. Volume pricing tiers are typically: 1-99 pallets (standard pricing), 100-499 (volume discount), 500-999 (bulk discount), and 1,000+ (custom pricing with dedicated account management).
Absolutely. We encourage customers to inspect product quality before committing to a large purchase. You can visit our facility in Riverside to view pallets in person, or we can deliver a small sample quantity (typically 5-10 pallets) so you can evaluate them at your facility. The sample cost is credited toward your first bulk order. We also provide high-resolution photographs and detailed condition reports for customers who cannot visit in person.
Yes. Our pallet rental program is ideal for businesses that need pallets temporarily — for seasonal surges, special projects, trade shows, or short-term contracts. You pay a per-pallet, per-day rate with no long-term commitment. For ongoing needs, our leasing program provides a fixed monthly rate that includes delivery, pickup, repair, and replacement. Leasing eliminates the capital expense of purchasing pallets and simplifies your logistics.
We accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), ACH bank transfers, business checks, and wire transfers. For approved business accounts, we offer Net 30 payment terms. New customers can apply for a credit account by providing a completed credit application, business references, and bank information. Approval typically takes 2-3 business days. We also offer prepaid accounts with a 3% discount for businesses that prefer to pay in advance.

Selling & Buyback

6 questions
Yes! Our buyback program purchases used pallets in all conditions. Even broken pallets have value — we pay for the salvageable materials. We buy standard sizes (48x40, 42x42, 48x48) as well as non-standard and specialty sizes. Pricing depends on size, condition, and quantity. Contact us with the type, quantity, and condition of your pallets for a quote. We typically respond within 24 hours with a firm offer.
The process is simple: (1) Contact us with the approximate quantity, size, and condition of your pallets. (2) We provide a per-pallet price quote within 24 hours. (3) Once you accept, we schedule a pickup at your facility — typically within 3-5 business days. (4) Our team loads the pallets (you do not need to provide labor or equipment). (5) We count and grade the pallets on-site or at our facility. (6) Payment is issued within 7 business days via your preferred method. For ongoing relationships, we offer scheduled recurring pickups on a weekly or monthly basis.
We buy pallets in ALL conditions: (1) Reusable pallets (Grade A and B) command the highest buyback price, as they can be resold directly. (2) Repairable pallets (broken boards, missing fasteners) are purchased at a moderate price — our repair team can restore most damaged pallets to service. (3) Dismantlable pallets (severely damaged but with salvageable components) are purchased for their usable boards and stringers. (4) Scrap pallets (beyond repair) are purchased for their recyclable wood fiber. Even completely destroyed pallets have value — nothing goes to waste.
Our standard minimum for a free pickup is 100 pallets. For quantities below 100, we can still arrange pickup, but a small transportation fee may apply depending on your location. Alternatively, you are welcome to drop off any quantity at our Riverside facility during business hours (Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM). For businesses that generate fewer than 100 pallets at a time, we recommend accumulating pallets and scheduling periodic pickups.
Buyback pricing varies based on several factors: pallet size (standard 48x40 commands the best price), condition (Grade A pallets pay more than scrap), quantity (larger quantities receive better per-unit pricing), and current market conditions. As a general guideline: Grade A 48x40 pallets typically pay $4-8 each, Grade B pallets $2-5, repairable pallets $1-3, and scrap pallets $0.25-1. These are estimates — contact us for a specific quote based on your inventory.
Yes, and this is one of our most popular services. We can schedule recurring pickups on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis depending on your pallet volume. Many of our customers in manufacturing, distribution, and retail find that a scheduled pickup eliminates pallet accumulation, frees up valuable floor space, and provides a consistent revenue stream from what would otherwise be waste. We provide a dedicated account manager who monitors your volume and adjusts the schedule as needed.

Recycling & Sustainability

6 questions
Nothing goes to waste. Unrepairable pallets are dismantled for usable components (boards, stringers, blocks). Remaining wood is processed through our industrial grinder and converted into several useful products: landscaping mulch, animal bedding, playground surfacing material, composite decking feedstock, or biomass fuel for energy generation. Metal fasteners (nails, staples) are separated magnetically and sent to metal recyclers. Our material recovery rate is 98%, meaning virtually nothing ends up in a landfill.
Pallet recycling provides significant environmental benefits. Each recycled pallet saves approximately 3.5 board feet of new lumber, which translates to preserving tree growth and forest resources. Recycling also diverts wood from landfills — in California alone, wood pallets account for millions of tons of potential landfill waste annually. Our recycling process consumes 80% less energy than manufacturing new pallets from raw lumber. Additionally, by extending the useful life of wood products, recycling delays the release of stored carbon, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Our facility achieves a 98% material recovery rate, which means that out of every ton of pallets we process, only 2% (primarily dirt, debris, and non-recyclable contaminants) goes to landfill. This rate exceeds the industry average of approximately 85-90%. We achieve this through a multi-stage processing system: visual inspection and hand sorting, mechanical dismantling for component recovery, grinding for wood fiber recovery, magnetic separation for metal recovery, and quality screening for end-product purity.
Yes. We provide detailed recycling certificates for every pickup or drop-off, documenting the quantity processed, materials recovered, and landfill diversion achieved. For businesses with sustainability reporting requirements (ESG, CSR, GRI, or CDP frameworks), we provide quarterly sustainability reports with detailed metrics including tons of wood recycled, CO2 equivalent emissions avoided, landfill diversion tonnage, and water savings compared to new pallet manufacturing. These reports can be used directly in your corporate sustainability disclosures.
Absolutely! We offer guided tours of our facility Monday through Friday by appointment. During the tour, you will see our complete recycling process: pallet receiving and inspection, manual and automated repair lines, heat treatment kilns, grinding and mulch production, metal separation, and quality control stations. The tour takes approximately 45-60 minutes. It is a great way to understand how we maintain quality and to see where your pallets go after pickup. Many of our corporate clients bring their sustainability teams for educational visits. Call or email us to schedule your visit.
California Senate Bill 1383 (Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Reduction Act) requires a 75% reduction in organic waste disposed in landfills by 2025 compared to 2014 levels. Wood pallets are classified as organic waste under this legislation, which means disposing of wood pallets in landfills is increasingly restricted and may result in penalties for waste generators. By partnering with Riverside Pallet Co., your business ensures full compliance with SB 1383 — we recycle or repurpose 98% of all pallet materials. We provide documentation that demonstrates your diversion compliance for regulatory reporting.

Shipping & Delivery

7 questions
Yes, we provide full delivery service throughout Southern California and neighboring states. For bulk orders (500+ pallets within 50 miles of our facility), delivery is included in the price at no additional charge. We also offer scheduled recurring delivery for businesses with ongoing needs. Our fleet includes flatbed trucks, enclosed trailers, and semi-trucks capable of delivering from 50 to 1,000+ pallets per load.
Our primary service area includes Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego counties. We also regularly serve Ventura, Kern, and Imperial Valley. Within this primary zone, we offer same-day and next-day delivery options. For regional orders (Nevada, Arizona, Northern California), delivery is available within 3-5 business days. For bulk orders of 500+ pallets, we offer nationwide shipping anywhere in the continental United States via common carrier or dedicated truck.
Turnaround depends on the product type: Standard sizes in stock (48x40, 42x42, 48x48 in Grade A, B, or C) are typically available for delivery within 1-2 business days. Less common standard sizes may take 2-3 business days. Custom-built pallets require 5-10 business days depending on complexity and quantity. Heat-treated pallets add 1-2 business days to any order for kiln treatment. For truly urgent needs, we offer same-day delivery for in-stock items within 50 miles of our facility — call and mention "URGENT" for priority handling.
Yes. Same-day delivery is available for in-stock standard sizes within 50 miles of our facility, with orders placed before 10 AM. Next-day delivery is available for custom sizes if materials are in stock. A rush fee of 15-25% applies for expedited orders depending on the urgency and delivery distance. We understand that production lines cannot wait, which is why we maintain substantial safety stock of the most common sizes. Call us and mention "URGENT" for the fastest possible response and turnaround.
Pallets are typically delivered stacked on flatbed trucks or enclosed trailers. Standard delivery includes driver-unload using our truck-mounted forklift, so you do not need any equipment on-site. If your facility has a loading dock, we can also deliver via semi-truck with side-loading or rear-loading capability. For large orders (500+), we deliver on full semi-trailers with 20-26 stacks per load. Please ensure your delivery area has at least 40 feet of clearance for truck access and a flat surface for safe unloading.
Yes, we regularly deliver to construction sites, event venues, temporary warehouses, and other non-standard locations. We just need a physical address and any specific access instructions (gate codes, contact person, delivery window). For locations without a loading dock, our truck-mounted forklift handles ground-level unloading. We ask that the delivery area be level, firm (no soft dirt or mud), and clear of overhead obstructions for safe forklift operation.
Yes to both. For out-of-state domestic shipments, we arrange common carrier freight for orders of any size, though shipping is most cost-effective for full truckloads (500+ pallets). We handle all freight logistics and provide tracking information. For international shipments, all wood pallets must be heat-treated per ISPM-15. We provide fully compliant pallets with the IPPC stamp, and we can coordinate with freight forwarders for containerized export shipments. We also offer plastic pallets for international shipping, which are exempt from ISPM-15 requirements.

Pricing & Quotes

6 questions
Pricing depends on size, grade, quantity, and delivery location. As a general guide for 48x40 GMA pallets: Grade A (like-new) ranges $7-12 each, Grade B (good condition) ranges $4-8 each, and Grade C (economy) ranges $2-5 each. Volume discounts apply for orders of 100+, 500+, and 1,000+ pallets. New pallets cost more — typically $12-25 for standard sizes depending on specifications. Contact us with your exact requirements for a firm quote — we typically respond within 24 hours.
Pallet prices are influenced by several market factors: (1) Lumber prices — raw material costs for new lumber directly affect both new and recycled pallet pricing. (2) Supply and demand — seasonal peaks in retail (Q4 holiday season) and agriculture (harvest seasons) drive higher demand and prices. (3) Transportation costs — fuel prices affect delivery charges. (4) Regional availability — supply varies by market area. (5) Economic activity — strong manufacturing and retail activity increases pallet demand. We strive to maintain stable pricing for our contract customers, but spot market prices may vary. Locking in a supply agreement is the best way to ensure consistent pricing.
Yes, we offer tiered volume pricing: orders of 100-499 pallets receive a 5-10% discount off standard pricing, 500-999 pallets receive 10-15% off, and orders of 1,000+ pallets receive custom pricing with the deepest discounts. For ongoing supply agreements (monthly or annual contracts), we offer additional contract pricing that locks in a favorable rate regardless of market fluctuations. The more you buy and the longer your commitment, the better the price. Contact us for a custom quote based on your projected volume.
Delivery is free for orders of 500+ pallets within 50 miles of our Riverside facility. For smaller orders or longer distances, a delivery fee applies and is quoted at the time of order. Standard delivery fees range from $75-250 depending on distance and quantity. For ongoing customers with regular delivery schedules, we often build delivery into the per-pallet price for simplicity. We are transparent about all costs — your quote will clearly itemize pallet cost, delivery fee (if any), and any applicable taxes.
We are confident in our pricing and always strive to be competitive. If you receive a written quote from another reputable pallet supplier for comparable products (same size, grade, and quantity), we will review it and do our best to match or beat it. We believe that when you compare apples to apples — factoring in pallet quality, delivery reliability, and customer service — Riverside Pallet Co. provides the best overall value in the region. Bring us your quotes and let us show you.
Standard quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. This gives you time to budget, get internal approvals, and coordinate logistics. For large or custom orders, we may extend the validity period upon request. Once a quote expires, pricing may change based on current market conditions. To lock in pricing long-term, consider a supply agreement — we offer 6-month and 12-month contracts with fixed pricing that protects you from market fluctuations.

Custom Orders

6 questions
Absolutely. We build custom pallets to any specification — any size, any material, any load capacity. Common custom orders include oversized pallets for industrial machinery (up to 8 feet in any dimension), miniature pallets for retail displays and promotional setups, heavy-duty pallets for loads exceeding 5,000 lbs, specialty pallets with specific board spacing for unique products, and export crates with integrated pallet bases. Provide us with your product dimensions, weight, and handling requirements, and our engineering team will design the optimal pallet.
To provide an accurate quote and design, we need: (1) Product dimensions — length, width, and height of the items being palletized. (2) Total weight — the maximum load that the pallet will carry. (3) Handling method — forklift, pallet jack, crane, clamp, or automated system. (4) Storage method — floor stacking, racking, or both, and how many pallets high. (5) Shipping method — truck, container, air freight, or internal facility use. (6) Special requirements — heat treatment, food-grade, anti-slip surface, specific wood species, moisture resistance, branding or labeling. (7) Quantity and frequency — one-time order or ongoing supply. The more detail you provide, the more precisely we can engineer your pallet.
Lead times for custom pallets depend on complexity and quantity: Simple custom sizes (non-standard dimensions using standard construction) take 5-7 business days. Custom designs with special features (heavy-duty construction, unusual board configurations, integrated runners) take 7-10 business days. Fully engineered pallets for unique applications (aerospace, machinery, oversized loads) may take 10-15 business days including the design and approval phase. For repeat custom orders, we keep your specifications on file and can typically produce subsequent runs in 3-5 business days.
Our minimum for custom pallet production is typically 50 units, which allows us to set up our production line efficiently. For quantities below 50, we can still produce custom pallets, but a setup fee of $100-250 may apply to cover the additional labor of configuring our equipment. For prototype or sample orders (1-5 units), we offer a flat-rate prototype service that includes design consultation, production, and delivery. Prototype costs are credited toward your first production order of 50+ units.
Yes, we offer several branding options for custom pallets: hot-iron branding (permanent burn-in of your logo or text), stencil painting (company name, logo, or handling instructions in any color), color staining (full pallet color treatment for promotional or retail display use), and ink stamping (for lot numbers, date codes, or tracking information). Branding is popular for pallets used in retail environments, trade shows, and export shipments where brand visibility is important. We also offer RFID tag installation for pallets used in automated tracking systems.
Yes. For engineered custom pallets, we provide detailed CAD drawings showing all dimensions, board spacing, fastener placement, and material specifications. These drawings require your approval before we begin production. For applications with critical load requirements, we offer load testing services that verify the pallet meets your static, dynamic, and racking load specifications. Load test results are documented in a formal report that you can share with your customers or compliance team. We use NWPCA Pallet Design System (PDS) software for all structural calculations.

Compliance & Treatment

6 questions
ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is the international standard for treating wood packaging materials to prevent the spread of invasive pests across borders. It was developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The standard requires that all solid wood packaging materials (pallets, crates, dunnage) used in international trade be either heat-treated to a core temperature of 56 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes, or fumigated with methyl bromide. Compliant pallets carry the official IPPC stamp, which includes the country code, producer number, and treatment type (HT for heat treatment, MB for methyl bromide).
Yes, every heat-treated order includes a certificate of treatment with the lot number, treatment date, core temperature records, duration of treatment, and IPPC stamp verification. These certificates are essential for international shipping documentation and customs compliance. We maintain treatment records for a minimum of two years, so replacement certificates can be issued if originals are lost. For customers with high-volume export operations, we also provide consolidated monthly treatment summaries for your records.
Yes, but wood pallets MUST be heat-treated per ISPM-15 regulations to prevent the spread of invasive pests. Non-compliant wood packaging materials will be rejected at customs, quarantined, or destroyed — resulting in significant delays, additional costs, and potential fines. We provide fully compliant pallets with the official IPPC stamp for all international destinations. Plastic pallets are exempt from ISPM-15 requirements because they do not harbor pests, making them a hassle-free option for international shipments where treatment documentation adds complexity.
Yes. Our heat-treated recycled pallets are safe for food applications and meet FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements for sanitary transportation. We select pallets for food-grade use carefully, rejecting any with chemical stains, odors, or contamination. For environments requiring the highest hygiene standards (pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, clean rooms), we also offer HDPE plastic pallets that are FDA compliant, non-porous, easy to sanitize, and resistant to bacteria growth. All food-grade pallets are stored separately in a dedicated clean area of our facility.
Heat treatment (HT) and kiln drying (KD) are different processes with different purposes. Heat treatment per ISPM-15 requires raising the wood core temperature to 56 degrees Celsius for a minimum of 30 minutes to kill pests and pathogens — this is a phytosanitary requirement for international shipping. Kiln drying is a moisture reduction process that reduces the wood moisture content to 19% or below, preventing mold growth, reducing weight, and improving dimensional stability. Wood can be heat-treated without being kiln-dried, and vice versa. We offer both services: HT-only for export compliance, KD-only for moisture-sensitive applications, and HT+KD for customers who need both benefits.
Pallet pooling is a shared-use model where pallets circulate among multiple companies instead of being owned by one. Think of it like a rental car network for pallets. Companies check out pallets as needed, use them for shipping, and the pooling operator (like us) collects, inspects, repairs, and redistributes them. Benefits include lower per-use cost than ownership, elimination of storage and disposal headaches, consistent quality since pooled pallets are regularly inspected, and reduced environmental impact since pallets are reused many more times. We offer a regional pooling program that is ideal for high-volume operations in Southern California.

Common Pallet Mistakes to Avoid

Learn from the most frequent errors we see customers make, and save yourself time and money.

Using untreated pallets for international shipping

Risk

Shipments are rejected at customs, quarantined, or destroyed. You face delays, re-shipping costs, and potential fines from border protection agencies.

Solution

Always use ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets with the IPPC stamp for any shipment crossing international borders. Verify the stamp is visible and legible before loading.

Overloading pallets beyond their rated capacity

Risk

Pallet failure during transport or storage can cause product damage, worker injuries, insurance claims, and OSHA violations.

Solution

Know the static, dynamic, and racking load ratings for your pallets. Always account for the total weight including packaging. When in doubt, upgrade to a heavier-duty pallet.

Stacking pallets too high without securing the load

Risk

Unstable stacks can topple, damaging products and creating dangerous conditions for warehouse workers. This is one of the leading causes of warehouse injuries.

Solution

Follow your pallet manufacturer's stacking recommendations. Use stretch wrap, banding, or corner boards to secure loads. Never exceed your racking system's rated capacity.

Using the wrong pallet size for your racking system

Risk

Pallets that are too small can fall through racking beams. Pallets that are too large will not fit or will overhang dangerously. Both scenarios create safety hazards and inefficiency.

Solution

Measure your racking beam spacing and depth before ordering pallets. Standard selective racking is designed for 48x40 GMA pallets. Non-standard racking requires custom pallet sizes.

Throwing away damaged pallets instead of recycling

Risk

You lose money (damaged pallets still have value), fill up landfill space, and in California, you may violate SB 1383 organic waste diversion requirements.

Solution

Partner with a pallet recycler like Riverside Pallet Co. We buy damaged pallets of all conditions and recycle 98% of all materials. Even scrap pallets have value.

Not inspecting pallets before loading

Risk

A pallet with a cracked stringer, loose board, or protruding nail can fail during shipping, damage products, or injure workers during handling.

Solution

Implement a quick visual inspection before every use: check for broken boards, cracked stringers, protruding nails, and excessive moisture or mold. Reject any pallet that fails inspection.

Pallet Lifespan & Maintenance Tips

Maximize the useful life of your pallets with these practical care and handling tips.

Proper Storage

Store pallets in a dry, covered area to prevent moisture absorption, mold growth, and premature decay. Stack pallets no more than 15 high on a level surface. Avoid storing pallets directly on dirt or grass, which accelerates rot. Indoor storage can extend pallet life by 2-3 years compared to outdoor exposure.

Correct Forklift Handling

Train forklift operators to enter pallets squarely and fully — partial fork engagement is the number one cause of pallet damage. Forks should be spread to the widest stable position and fully inserted to the stringer or block. Avoid dragging pallets across the floor, as this destroys bottom deck boards and stringers.

Load Distribution

Distribute weight evenly across the pallet deck to prevent point loading, which can crack deck boards. Use edge boards, corner posts, and slip sheets to distribute concentrated loads. Never place heavy items on one corner or edge of the pallet. Uniform load distribution maximizes pallet life and load stability.

Regular Inspection

Inspect pallets before each use for cracked or broken boards, split stringers, protruding nails, and signs of moisture damage or mold. A quick 10-second visual check prevents product damage, worker injuries, and costly pallet failures during transit. Remove damaged pallets from service immediately.

Timely Repair

Do not continue using pallets with broken boards or cracked stringers. A single broken deck board can cause an entire load to shift or collapse. Repair or replace damaged pallets promptly. Minor repairs (board replacement, nail re-seating) can restore a pallet to full service at a fraction of the cost of a new unit.

Avoid Chemical Exposure
